Graduate Open Studio, Noel Night

This poster communicates the opening of the graduate studios to the public during Noel Night in Detroit. The graduate studios located in the basement of Old Main at Wayne State University are closed off from the public and other students so this event is a chance for everyone to see what transpires in the secretive studios. Not only was this event a chance for the public to meet us, it’s a chance where other professional curators and gallery owners seek out connections. I took a photo of the main hallway in the graduate studios and manipulated it to create a unique space. The introduction to the event at the top of the poster has been manipulated until the sentences create interesting spaces, which pull you down to the event name and date. The Open Studio letters are a combination of Univers 75 and Baskerville typefaces. Each letter has been manipulated in a highly individual way so when the letters come together to form words, it displays a harmonious unity across many different characteristics.

The feeling of unity.

The feeling of the Open Studio event…almost two dozen graduate students in a variety of disciplines and interests coming together for an exhibition. This poster needed to convey the individuality of each artist and yet come together as a whole within this defined space, the graduate studio.
