341

A piece in which an abstract timeline piece was represented. 341 days- starting with the day I found out my mother had epithelial ovarian cancer to the day she died. The days were loosely represented as barcodes with color representing the different emotions that were experienced. Barcodes are vertically read as short days, however, the width could vary its thickness by its perceived time as some days seemed much shorter or longer than others but we know that is just the perception. Every day is equal in length. And when we found out the treatments weren’t working, her health declined and the days began to take on a sad, gloomy outlook. Not only did the days seem grey, my mother’s appearance also changed, turning grey in appearance as we knew the inevitable was coming.

The comforts of home.

This piece was printed on fabric, which has implications of time, connectivenedd and takes on a person personal identity. As my mother was always chilly from the chemo treatments and being in the hospital, I was constantly bringing her blankets- some of the small comforts from home.
